This page is a translation of the Finnish-language content. It is intended as indicative supplementary information to help you get an overview of the main features of the insurance policies — it is not a contractual document and not a complete description of the cover. The insurance policies are always governed by the Finnish-language policy terms and product descriptions. In the event of any discrepancy between language versions, the Finnish version prevails.
Affordable for trade union members
Kaleva’s life and accident insurance is intended for members of Kaleva’s partner unions and their families. Kaleva’s insurance policies are a significant membership benefit from the union: you can insure your whole family at a discounted price, even if you are the only family member who belongs to the union.
Life insurance
Life insurance safeguards your family’s standard of living with a lump-sum benefit if the insured person dies.
The price of the life insurance is determined by your age, your union’s discount percentage and the amount of compensation. You can take out life insurance for yourself, and your spouse also obtains the insurance through you at the members’ discounted price, even if he or she does not belong to any organisation. Life insurance can also be taken out as a more affordable Couple’s coverage.
The price of Kaleva’s life insurance is permanently affordable. This is not a fixed-term offer.
Couple’s coverage
As Couple’s coverage, the life insurance is shared by the spouses, which makes the price even more affordable. Couple’s coverage is an affordable life insurance for two (a joint two-person cover), for example for common-law or married couples. Couple’s coverage is a single policy with a shared sum insured. It has two insured persons, and both insured persons have their own beneficiaries.
When one of them dies, the sum payable upon death is paid in full to the beneficiaries of the deceased party. If both insured persons die at the same time, the sum payable upon death is paid in half to the beneficiaries of both insured persons.
What does life insurance cover?
The death benefit is paid when you die. Life insurance covers death from illness as well as accidental death. You decide the amount of compensation and the beneficiary.
To whom is the death benefit paid?
You decide the beneficiary of your life insurance yourself. The beneficiary is the person to whom the sum insured of your life insurance is paid. The amount of compensation and the beneficiary can be changed if your life situation changes.
Health declaration
When applying for Kaleva’s life insurance, a short health declaration must be completed. In a joint two-person cover, i.e. Couple’s coverage, both parties complete it.
The questions in the health declaration are:
Are you on sick leave?
Are you currently, or have you been, on rehabilitation support or a disability pension?
Do you use, or have you used, narcotics or intoxicants other than alcohol; have you been treated or examined due to the use of alcohol or another intoxicant?
Have you had cancer or another malignant tumour in the past three years?
Have you had coronary artery disease, heart failure or a cerebrovascular disease in the past five years?
Accident insurance
The Primus accident insurance is a flexible and affordable option when you want to choose your accident cover according to your life situation. You do not need to complete a health declaration for it, and it takes effect immediately. The cover is valid both at work and during leisure time.
The accident insurance includes:
Cover for treatment costs caused by an accident
With this cover, you prepare for treatment costs arising from an accident, up to EUR 50,000 with no deductible.
Cover for permanent impairment caused by an accident
The permanent impairment cover is there in case you become permanently disabled as a result of an accident. The sum insured is at most EUR 80,000.
You can also supplement your accident insurance:
Cover for short-term incapacity for work
With this cover, you receive a daily allowance if you suffer a short-term incapacity for work caused by an accident. The cover’s deductible period is seven days, the purpose of which is to leave out of the cover those days of incapacity for work for which the employer often pays wages.
Accident insurance for children
Kaleva’s children’s accident insurance is an easy and affordable accident insurance for children that is valid up to the age of 25. The insurance covers accidents occurring in competitive sports up to the age of 18. It is valid always and everywhere, with no deductible. The insurance is granted to children under 18 years of age.
The children’s insurance includes the following cover:
Treatment costs caused by an accident: EUR 20,000
Permanent impairment caused by an accident, i.e. disability: EUR 100,000
Death caused by an accident: EUR 5,000
Please note the following:
To be able to take out insurance, you must be permanently resident in Finland and have a Kela card.
